Research interests

My main research interest is to understand the social organization inside a fish population by studying the different means of communication as well as the constraints (biotic and abiotic) to which they are submitted. The fish species studied is Pygocentrus natterei (the most common piranha species) which present the ability to produce sound thanks to the contraction of sonic muscles well developed inducing the compression of swimbladder. The purpose of the project is to describe fish behaviours associated with sounds and to identify the factors influencing the emissions, as for example: breeding behaviour, density and interactions between males, females, male/female, and within the whole group.
